'The Dark Night' - Is this entertainment?

The movie is TOO DARK for me. I personally think it goes too far. Exposes the depths of human depravity too far, exposes it in a way that I felt very uncomfortable with.

Now, I have been to see a lot of movies of all types, and some have been fairly graphic and violent, but what this one exposed was something different.

The character of the Joker exposes a particular aspect of humans - that part that stimulates us to have a morbid sense of curiosity, to be engrossed by acts that we would not wish upon ourselves or our family, to go and watch human suffering, to be entertained by human suffering.

As I sat in the audience I started to wonder why I was there? I love a good escapist movie, a good laugh, a great story, but this did not fit that.

This story did not entertain me. It made me very sad for our society. This movie is just another step to degrading the controls we put in place to control that part of humans that can lead to our undoing. I am sure you know what I mean.

If you see this movie and look at the Joker character and his total lack of empathy for others suffering, his rapture with seeing others suffering, and think this is far removed from yourself, think again. Ask yourself why you are sitting in a cinema watching, laughing and being entertained by the extremely explicit suffering of other people.
